History
The sack race is a traditional outdoor game that has been played for well over a century, with roots in rural community gatherings and school sports days.
It likely began as a simple activity using readily available materials like grain sacks or burlap bags.
Over time, it became a popular feature at school events, festivals, and family gatherings around the world. Its lasting appeal comes from its simplicity,
affordability, and the fun challenge of trying to move quickly while hopping inside a sack.
Today, it remains a classic favourite that brings laughter, energy, and friendly competition to any event.
Playing Kids Jumping Sack Race
Game setup: To set up the jumping sack race, choose a flat, open area, ideally on grass, with enough space for safe movement.
Mark a clear start line and finish line using ropes, placing them approximately 5 to 15 metres apart depending on the age of the players.
Use cones along the sides to define the race lanes and keep players moving in a straight path. Each player is then given a jumping sack and should be
ready at the starting line before the race begins.
Rules & How to play: Players step into their sacks and hold the top edges securely. On the signal to start, they begin hopping toward the finish line.
Both feet must remain inside the sack at all times, and players are only allowed to hop forward — no running or walking.
If a player falls, they must get back into position inside the sack before continuing. Players may not push, block, or interfere with others during the race. The first player to completely cross the finish line wins.
Perfect for: Kids birthday parties, School sports days, Family gatherings, Community events, Outdoor fun days, etc...
